The tool is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 and easily you can run it as virtual machine using VMware Player.

Fields of Science: Telecommunications/Wireless communications and cognitive radio natworking
Research area: Development and performance evaluation of interactive procedures for cooperative spectrum sensing to support geolocation-based radio frequency spectrum sharing.
At the postgraduate level young researchers are involved in basic research projects or applied research and development projects and are employed by the Institute. The funds for their salary, their expenses, the material and non-material costs for their research work and the cost of the postgraduate course are covered by the Slovenian Research Agency. Since the 1985 the young-researcher programme has been one of the instruments of the scientific policy of the Slovenian Research Agency for the stimulation of the development of human resources.

GRASS-RaPlaT as official add-on |

GRASS-RaPlaT, an open-source radio planning tool developed by support of Slovenian largest mobile operator Telekom, became an official add-on of GRASS GIS system - http://grass.osgeo.org/wiki/GRASS_AddOns#Raplat.
GRASS-RaPlaT is a modular radio coverage tool characterized by a high level of flexibility and adaptability. It performs separate calculation of the radio signal path loss using an arbitrary channel model, and the inclusion of antenna radiation patterns and setup parameters such as antenna tilting, azimuth and antenna height. Furthermore, it performs computation of the maximum signal level at the receiver and additional processing of the output data. http://commsys.ijs.si/en/software/grass-raplat

Projekt 7OP "ABSOLUTE" |

ABSOLUTE »Aerial Base Stations with Opportunistic Links for Unexpected & Temporary Events« je naslov projekta v 7OP (IP), ki se je začel dne 1. oktobra in v katerem sodeluje Odsek za komunikacijske sisteme Instituta "Jožef Stefan". Glavni cilj projekta je razvoj in ovrednotenje inovativnih robustnih arhitektur telekomunikacijskih omrežij, ki so primerna za zagotavljanje varnih širokopasovnih storitev v večjih geografskih področjih, prizadetih zaradi obsežnih nepredvidenih dogodkov (ali nesreče), ki vodijo do delne ali popolne nedostopnosti prizemne komunikacijske infrastrukture, ali zaradi začasnih dogodkov, ki zahtevajo visoko zmogljivost komunikacijskega omrežja. Glavna vloga Odseka za komunikacijske sisteme na projektu je vzpostavitev in integracija brezžičnih senzorskih omrežij v izrednih razmerah in načrtovanje inovativnih arhitektur za upravljanje z mobilnostjo. Konzorcij sestavlja 16 partnerjev s tega področja v Evropi (Francija, Italija, Nemčija, Romunija, Slovenija in Velika Britanija) in en partner iz Avstralije. Vrednost projekta je 8 mio. EUR, projekt bo trajal 3 leta. S strani IJS projekt vodi dr. Mihael Mohorčič.

1. mesto na konferenci ERK |

18. septembra 2012 je na mednarodni Elektrotehniški in računalniški konferenci ERK 2012 v Portorožu, ki jo organizira Slovenska sekcija IEEE, potekalo študentsko tekmovanje. Predstavnik IJS z odseka E6 Urban Kuhar je med konkurenco 12 tekmovalcev iz vse Slovenije s prispevkom »Izgradnja poceni merilnika sprejete moči satelitskega signala na tehnologiji programskega radia« dosegel 1. mesto. S tem se je uvrstil na študentsko tekmovanje IEEE Regije 8, ki obsega Evropo, Afriko in Azijo brez Daljnega vzhoda, kjer bo zastopal Slovenijo. Čestitke Urban, in veliko uspeha pri nadaljnjem delu!
